Founded in 1958, Les Laboratoires Shermont inc., member of Teknika HBA, group Services de contrôle Teknika inc., Les Laboratoires Laviolette inc., Les Laboratoires de l'Estrie inc. and Les Laboratoires Industriels et Commerciaux inc., Fondex Outaouais and Fondex Hautes-Rivières and Laboratoire de construction 2000 inc., firms renowned in the fields of soil and materials engineering, environment and roofing throughout Quebec.

Les Laboratoires Shermont inc., from the Université de Sherbrooke to Today...

It's following his Master's degree studies at the prestigious MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) with the father of geotechnics, Doctor Karl Terzaghi, that Jean Charron, eng., P.Eng., M.Sc., becomes in 1957 the first professor in geotechnics and concrete at the Faculty of Civil Engineering at the Université de Sherbrooke.

A visionary and entrepreneur, Jean Charron notices the ever growing need to establish a firm specialized in geotechnics and materials. He thus founds in 1958 Les Laboratoires Shermont inc., one of the first firms of this type in Quebec. Beginnings are modest. Innovation is a must, since everything has to be done. It is with the blessing of the institution that the first tests are conducted in the University de Sherbrooke's laboratories, laboratories built by Mr. Charron himself.

He retires from teaching in 1965 to exclusively devote himself to the development of the firm, then truly taking off.

Since its foundation, Les Laboratoires Shermont have conducted in Québec a large number of works in soil and materials engineering, environment and roofing. Moreover, it was the first Canadian firm to be certified ISO Guide 25.

Through the years, the firm has become one of the leaders in this field in Quebec and we can assert with pride that our mandates have always been executed to the full satisfaction of our clients.

Our team is comprised of engineers, geologists, geographers, biologists and technicians. It benefits from the experience and know-how of professionals having cumulated several years of employment with the firm.

State-of-the-art Equipment

Every year, the firm invests in state-of-the-art equipment in order to provide its personnel with the best tools available. In addition, our professionals receive customized training to maximize the use of these tools.

Work Force

Our personnel groups more than 60 professionals, 100 experienced technicians, 12 adminis-trative assistants as well as a laboratory team. Our material resources (laboratory and field equipment) total more than 3 million dollars.
